Hi! I'm new to backyard chickens, and am so excited to get started! I've done a lot of research on raising my future baby chick's and have most of my supplies ready to go. Coop included! I live outside of charlotte, nc and am looking for a good place to purchase my chicks. I would prefer to purchase in person. I'm looking to get 3, combination of Rhode Island red and buff orpington. Does anyone have suggestions of where to purchase?

Go to your state thread here on BYC and post and see if you can pick some up from a fellow BYC'er. They should be better taken care of then Craigslist and Freedbie news.

IMG_0329.JPG We just got 20 phoenix buff Orpingtons mixes from a woman that needed to get them gone and 4 roosters that needed a home. I think she had an accident in breeding and ended up with mutts. I love mutts. They are all very healthy and we got them on craigslist. It also depends on your area if you buy from a grange they will probably be vaccinated. Our Buff Orgpinton rooster had never met, and they will sit calmly in your lap and are now hanging out like 2 bookends. They are buddy's within an hour. Orpingtons are a great bred for beginners.
