It's my choice to do it. I probably will keep a couple. I just won't be actively breeding them like I will the Magpies. I like he Magpies better, because they mature faster, are smaller, and easier for me to handle. They're also rarer than Saxonys. :)
Oh ok. I like magpies too! They’re so pretty!

The reason Metzers does not offer Calls is the same reason any ethical Call breeder will not ship ducklings.... Call ducklings DO NOT ship well, they don't handle the stress at all and other than a couple hatcheries, most will not even consider risking shipping...

Cost of Calls is all about quality, there are plenty of PQ Calls available if you look and they *should never* run much more than standard ducks in price...

Look locally if you want them, or settle for started juvies/adults first, then hatch from those...

Calls are great beginner ducks, actually... they're much more easily imprintable than other breeds, tend to be more social than large breeds, and are extremely intelligent and just plain fun to have around...

But, when they sound off/alert, they are extremely LOUD... if that might be an issue, then best to look at others instead... but I have found content Calls only sound off or alert when startled/scared/for a reason, and their daily 'talking' voices are much quieter chatter than larger breeds... they also fly very, very well... if you can't cover their area, clipping wings may be a necessity... but also be aware that due to their size, predation is more likely than a large breed, so netted run is safer all around... just my 2 cents... :)
