i really want call ducks, and am fully prepared to give them complete protection with a run within my chicken pen. Unfortunately I’ve run into a few problems. I would like to buy from mezter farms hatchery because I’ve heard great things about them, but unfortunately they don’t sell calls. Also they ship a minimum of two, and I would like three. Since they didn’t sell calls I popped over to a couple other hatcheries to check them out, but one had a minimum of ten calls for $15 and the other had calls and a low minimum (two I think) but if you purchased more than ten there was a $45 fee more special handling and heating because there weren’t as many in the box. Does anyone know of a hatchery with a low minimum and call ducks? I have my heart set on them, but could switch to a different breed. If anyone had any bantam breeds to suggest, please do! Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply’s! I’ll talk with Learycow, and maybe ravynscroft a bit later when she’s feeling better

Why not get 10 (or more) and sell the ones you don't want to keep? What if you end up with 2 males and 1 female (that is the worst ratio for the poor girl) ? Raise up 10 of them, pick the ones you want to keep then sell the extras as pairs or groups of males for pets.

Though normally I would agree with this kind of post I'm going to have to disagree, Unlike standard ducks Calls are very very expensive.. Buying 10 call ducklings can easily cost over $100, Depending on the quality.

@Abriana If you can't find a local breeder that'll sell you 3 calls Purely Poultry sells a nice variety of call ducks, they have a minimum of 6 and each duckling is only $15. Just don't expect the best quality from them..

Minimum of 6, 8$ a piece. You aren't going to find sexed call ducklings though. www.johnsonswaterfowl.com

Thanks for the great advice everyone! I’ll think about it all, can you buy sexed calls? Or are they too little? I get really attached and don’t want to give males up, which I would have to.
