Where to find emus?

Hello and

,
You could ask around in the Ostriches, Emu, Rheas forum, Other Poultry - Birds & Hatching Eggs forum, or the Where am I? Where are you! forum (to people who live where you live). Good luck finding some Emus!!

Welcome to BYC!

I've never been involved in raising emu so no idea what the going cost is for chicks or eggs but with the links @Chicken Girl1 has provided, you should be able to find someone that knows.

Good luck to you, hope you find what you're looking for!

Welcome to BYC. I would imagine the emu threads will be able to provide you with information.

I have heard emu's are very fragile the first year of life. They need to have strong, normal legs to support them - so any foot/ leg problems as chicks can severely impact their life. Hatching (eggs take about 55 days) are more difficult than chickens, ducks, geese - you have to monitor weight of eggs etc.

They don't reach breeding - laying age till around 3 yrs. of age. All this I learned from chicken threads years ago, when emu's were in fashion. The people that hatched them - are no longer raising them.
