As sad as it is that they don’t have homes at least they cant breed to create more without homes and yes it is much better at being euthanized. Seems like shelters are packed everywhere and even though it’s sad sometimes I guess what else can you do other than re-release them. Not that I necessarily thought it was a bad thing to do just sad

I didn’t know that’s what it meant if you saw a cat with his ear tipped. I have a pig with his ear tipped but I think that meant he was supposed to be dinner. Even though his name is pork chop he most certainly is not dinner. I’m glad it doesn’t mean the same thing for a cat

It may help to if you could put up fliers on a bulletin board at local farm stores and such saying that you’re looking for a cat. Sometimes people are in the confusion of not knowing what to do when they can no longer have them or care for them and would be happy to see somebody is looking to get them a good home. Worth a shot

Okay....dang it I’m not pulling weeds lol. Back in the day when I was knee deep into animal fostering animals I ended up with one entire bedroom full of pregnant cats. PAWS would provide kennels, litter, food ect. Shelters euthanized pregnant cats. I bottle feed numerous abandoned liters to. The only way I could get away with this is that I worked for a vet (baby feeding and such). So yes if you have a good relationship with your vet for sure they can point you in the direction for an adult cat. For free I will guess and you can let em’ out if you want. Now really I’m not tootin my own horn so please don’t go there, okay. Overpopulation is a cruel/real thing. Same goes for chickens. I to this day will ask, then take cats to be FIXED. At no charge (free clinics) to many people this is a blessing for whatever their circumstances are. I’m able so I do. In-out claws-no claws is to me kinda a mute issue in the bigger picture. Just sayin’. Nice chatting with y’all. Ima gonna put DOWN my iPhone and get to pulling them WEEDS!!!!!

You’re not going to pull weeds. LOL I agree every animal does need to be fixed because there is so much of an overpopulation everywhere! We don’t have anywhere in our area that will do it free of charge but if you adopt they will add it to the adoption fee and if you already have a cat that need it done the will do it for super cheap.

Our HS charges $75 for a kitten and $50 for a cat. They are known to have “specials” where they are anywhere from $40 to free. (Some people donate money to sponsor cats which can lower the adoption fee.) Our clinic gives them away after they are fixed and we hope for a donation. We have a great group of donors though, so we are very thankful for them.

If you have a local clinic that specializes in a spay and neuter program, I would bet money that they would be happy to take your info and find a kitty for you.

I work at an animal birth control clinic and we have at least one adult cat looking for a home every week. Plenty of them have made excellent barn cats for people that come in looking for just that. When the other alternatives for the millions of unwanted cats are TNR (trapped neutered and released back where they were found) or euthanasia, I am happy someone wants to give them a chance indoors or out.

Sure there are risks, but it’s far better than no chance at all. There are not enough homes that can provide what your rescues are requiring. They need to be more realistic.

Which is so much the opposite of the ones that say you can't have a cat if it will be allowed outside.

I’m very lucky that the shelter around us does not require declawing.

In fact in older cats they saw declawing as cruel and would discourage it.

I don’t think I would appreciate it if somebody came in with my fingernails off. Ouch. But again to each their own.

Not "to each their own". Declawing isn't just cutting off the nails, it is removing the last bone in each toe. It is called animal cruelty. Very much frowned upon in Vermont.

Our oldest cat, just euthanized at 16 years of age when diagnosed with kidney disease a few weeks ago, came from a shelter, 5 years old turned in by someone who said they couldn't keep her, already declawed in the front. The next oldest cat from the same shelter, 3 years old, snagged as a stray, claws on all 4 feet. The other 2 cats, now 6 and nearly 2, were drop offs , and also have claws. They are all indoor cats. They have scratchers. Only the youngest is a problem, he likes to scratch the wool rug in one room. We keep that door shut. Requiring declawing is inhumane and unnecessary.

Primarily speaking, yes. The majority of what we offer are spays and neuters, (avg 30-60+ per day, depending on how many doctors are working). We also offer regular vaccinations, heartworm tests, & products for flea and heartworm prevention, and a few other services. We generally do not take in sick or injured pets, those are usually referred to the few full service veterinarians around us.
