Where to get guinea from?

20, I think. I've got a dozen eggs coming to bring in new genetics so with whatever the girls hatch out this year and (fingers crossed) the bought eggs hatch I should have quite a population explosion going on this year. Which means I'll have a bunch of keets to sell this year.

BTW, the current flock is out of three birds. Two males and one female so you don't have to worry about having your flock growing quickly starting small.

I have a confession......I killed one of my pullets by vent sexing her.
I have several poultry books and booklets and one of them is called,"Sexing of all fowl"
I knew it was a pullet, but I wanted to study the book and then examine the bird to develope a skill with it.
Well I took too long with the chick hanging upside-down. And still I didn't feel I got it.
But FYI the book claims their is no way to teach how to ID a keet. It claims the genitals are too similar on a keet to vent ID them. They recommend to wait until they are old enough to hear the female saying,"buckwheat-buckwheat."
Seems like it should work same as with a chicken though. They look close enough related to me.

Rhoda, I know it can be done. They actually taught people how to do it at a Guinea Fest a few years ago. These were not newly hatched keets but not old enough yet to have them declaring male or female. I have read the same thing about keeping a large bird on its back for too long. Compresses the air sacs and heart.

Yes, MFP. It does not take long at all for your flock to explode in numbers. Especially if you take the steps to make certain the girls lay in the coop. They don't need anything fancy, a deep layer of straw and half a sheet of plywood leaning against the wall makes them quite happy.

Its a shame you are not close to me I would GIVE you some, they are driving me nuts! Yes they are dumb, none of mine have died in the stock tank but if they don't learn to be quiet I think they will die at the end of a shotgun w/ my husband at the other end. Mine fly up onto the roof of the barn and then scream bloody murder because they can't figure out how to get down. I always sex them by their call, I have never tried to sex them any other method. They are GREAT bug eaters.

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

Hey, I'm thinking about getting some guineas do you think it would be better to order from a hatchery or there is a guy I know that might be able to hatch me some out. Witch do you think?

If you know a guy who will hatch guineas for you, I would get them from him

Okey!
