In smaller quantities? I am looking somewhere between 50 to 100 dose instead of a 1000 dose bottle. I am not having much luck finding them nor do I have the money to spend alot on a bottle for only 8 birds of mine as well as a few friends birds.

So where do I get a smaller dose bottle?

If you are a certified tester for your state then the state ag office should be able to send them to you (SOme states charge and some do not). Otherwise you will probably need to call the state up and have them send out a certified technician to test your birds. They will bring the antigen with them.

I got all the paperwork necessary to become an NPIP tester but they said all pullorum antigen must be purchased thru the Illinois Department of Agriculture in Springfield, IL.

I was supposed to get the tester to come out but he talked to hubby and said tht I would need a box to test these birds with because if I do not have anything ready, he is unable to teach me and I would have to take a class in April. So hubby is going to make me a box and I need to get the antigen before I go for the test. No it is not free.

Hmmm...that's interesting. Usually you need to be certified first before they give you the antigen. That's why I think its strange that this guy wants you to have it before he teaches you. Anyways, I would call up the ag department and ask them how much a bottle would be. I know they are about 10 each if you pick them up, but it is about 30 dollars if you have them shipped. However, the antigen lasts for a whole year and if you are into showing or you wish to test other people's birds, you'll be going through it fairly quick. A pullorum test only lasts for thirty days so you may be testing pretty often.

I had to email to the director and he said NOT to buy it until the course is completed. That's good! However I would still like to order less but will find out for sure.

Now I gotta make the box. It is ridiculous paying for over $100 on a box that one can make. Any pic of your antigen box? I know a plastic tackle box would be a good start!

My box is actually one the state used to give out before funding got cut. We were supposed to give them back and make our own but I never did. (Shhh! Don't tell anyone!)

What I have is a plastic box with a hole in the bottom for a light bulb and a removeable opaque plastic piece over the top. I've seen them made out of wood too. I don't have pictures of mine, but next time I'm home I'll try to remember to dig it out and take a picture!
