Where to put the coop?

Our founding fathers would be reeling in their graves to see how many freedoms have been stripped away and freely given up.

Right as rain. I find it incomprehensible that people spend good money for a nice house & property, and pay taxes & upkeep on it, & a bunch of strangers with no vested interest is allowed to set themselves up as a governing body, judge & jury, & dictate what you can & can't do to your own property.

We feel the same way, but in this area there really wasn't much of an option. The other houses available all had HOAs as well, with less land. The ones without either had barely any land, or were too far to commute for work. So we went with this one. At least our neighbors on both sides of us are fantastic.

With the location in the middle of a grove of trees, there won't be any grass growing through it. The tree roots and rocky soil are preventing us from burying it. We tried to dig an area to bury but couldn't do it. I am going to try to find some plants that will grow in the shade, though.

Pin it down good then. Landscape staples may or may not be enough. 14g 1x2 cage wire might be better than HC for laying down and staying flat.

How big and numerous are the roots that you're dealing with for the apron? If they're small enough you can go right over and then lawn staple close by the side of the roots.

I honestly didn't think the HOA would be as bad as it is. We lived in town in our last house, in a different state, and had an HOA, but nothing was ever regulated. Here it seems there arw people who do nothing but check their neighbors houses and yards for an infraction. It is ridiculous.

What area of VA are you in? Sounds like northern VA. Close?

There are a lot, but most of them are small. They are just so close together. There are six large trees in the grove and numerous smaller ones.

I figured. I'm betting DH works in DC, too. Way too many cars, people, & traffic lights, and too much concrete for my liking.
