I need about 2 dozen more before they all go in the bator. I thought I read they should be stored at 55-60 degrees; fridge is too cold, but with it being so warm, I have nowhere to keep them at 55-60. I have them in the basement which is about 65-70. One dozen from yesterday, one from today, so by Weds/Thursday I should be ready. I also read that they can sit up to 10 days but chances are better earlier.

What are my chances?

You should be fine. Collect your eggs, keep them cool like you are doing. Remember to turn them once a day to keep the embryo from sticking to the shell membrane.

Hens often collect their eggs for 10 - 12 days. So - following their lead - 10 days is about all I am comfortable with.

Prissy is right, although Id like to add this bit.

If I recall correctly, germination begins right @ 70 degrees. Dont wait too long.

Oh crud...I'll shoot for tomorrow then.

They are in the basement in egg cartons. When you say to turn them, you mean flip them 180 degrees in the carton, right? Or keep them on their sides?

You are right elderoo but in this kind of weather you have to do what you can and hope for the best. Maybe put them in a closed off room near but not too close to the a/c vent in cartons to get them just a little cooler?

never thought of just turning them over. I'm so new at this...

In the basement I do have them as close to the a/c vent as possible. Thank you again and hoping for the best.
