Where to water/feed... in the coop, the run or both?

I keep their food hanging inside the coop and I have large waterers (one inside and one outside) for them to drink.

I also hang up their food for half the day (out of reach) to encourage them to do more free grazing.

I do not have any problems with critters coming into my coop (other than occasional flies!).

I don't think it matters too much. As long as it's accessible they'll find it. Needless to say, your waterer should be in the shade, and your feeder should be under cover too for rain. I have an automatic waterer in a covered run, and I don't use a feeder...

my coop, or hen house, same thing...is part of my barn, an old tool room 5X8 or so, in the winter we put the water inside on a heated base, we get to -30*+ here in Colorado, feed also inside, sometimes the wind chill can cause frostbite on combs...my run is connected to the coop, so they have hanging food and waterer outside now, and a feed bowl for horses, full of water outside the run..they have just recently started free ranging and so they have access all day and night to food and water. They sleep in the run and coop at night...I have roosts in each. We have barn cats, so not many mice around, and I have never seen a rat or snake either...just flies!
