WHERE YOU LIVE WHAT IS THE...

East Bethel MN: I don't think we are suppose to have chickens unless you are on at least 3 acres. The coop has to be 50 ft away from your property line and 200 ft away from the well or septic. I am on an acre and lots of people in this residential area keep chickens illegally so i figure if the sherriff is gonna tag us for it then he is gonna be one busy guy running around everywhere tagging everyone for having chickens. My one neighbor had a problem with them only because i had an unruly rooster who loved hanging out in the guys garage. We put a fence up immediately and got rid of the unruly roo. Mine free range all day every day even when im at work but they stay in the yard for the most part. I have asked the neighbors to come and talk to me if they are having issues with the chickens so we can try to fix the problem before it becomes a bigger problem. The sheriff around here has seen my chickens several times running around the yard and he just smiles and waves as he drives by.

I'm about a mile south of the city limit and somehow zoned ag, so I can have what I want. I was told, however, that if the big poultry CAFOs here suspect I'm raising meat birds, I'll have regular, unannounced "visitors".

We have to live on 4 acres or more to keep any farm animals. Exception - if it for educational purposes or for 4H then you can have 4 small animals (chickens, rabbits, etc.)

I'm keeping 2 chickens right now....under the exception of course

To tell you the truth, I don't know what our laws are & frankly, I don't care! I live out in the country, so I'd imagine the laws aren't very strict, anyway. And we own over 5 acres, so I'd say we could get away with having as many chickens as we could manage!

City Ordinance reads , we can have as many chickens as we want , as long as they are 25 ft. from neighbors and they are NOT free ranged . So , either they have to be in cages , or coop with attached run . and naturally you have to supply cleaniness .

We have 13 chickens and we arent supposed to have 1! Our houses property used to be much bigger (it wasn't ours at that time) and then it got divided into neiborhoods. Their is even an old barn and on the floor of the chicken coop it has the initials of tom sebesta the guy in which our street is named after. I want goats and emus but we can't have them. They are big and we live right next to a park but everybody has said they love the sound of our silly silkie roo! We have 3 acres and honestly like someone said earlier, if the fat man behind the desk knew how fun it was to have chickens, he would want to share the joy by leting everybody have them, because depending on where we live, most people dont have enough money to buy a piece of land that could have chickens and cows and goats and pigs and emus and anything someone could want. That is my dream but we have to face reality. I am not going to give up on those delicous eggs for breakfast without a fight. I am shure nobody would.

Nothing really on the books about how many etc. Nothing about keeping a rooster either.

So I have 5 hens and, currently one rooster.
I really dont think anyone knows about them besides my direct neighbors. They are quiet. Their run/coop is kept clean. And with luck we will shortly have eggs to feed ourselves and the neighbors.

Heck. I could have a goat, horse or pony in my back yard. There is seriously nothing on the books
