Where's all the peeps that got MPC Special *Updated Pics 5 Weeks pg 3*

Thanks for all the well wishes. I think the band-aid thing would work if the chick definitely has spraddle leg, but I'm thinking the leg is deformed and not spraddled. One of its legs is perfectly fine and has been from the beginning - I'm thinking that spraddle legs affect both legs, not just one?

You can see from these 2 pics, that even though I taped the feet in the correct position, the chick will not stand on its foot correctly (these were taken today, after the chick had been wearing the band-aid for 2 1/2 days).

The chick's foot is turned out.

This picture was taken right after the other two - I removed the band-aid to check on it and the bad leg popped right back out. In the photo, it looks like my finger is pushing the leg out, but I'm not - the leg goes out like that no matter how I hold the chick. It is bent at the knee? and there is also a callous/scab? at the back of the upper part of the knee because of how the chick is using its leg. You can see how the good leg hangs down like it's supposed to.

Oh poor little girl.

The sooner you try to do something, the better.

Could you try the bandage between the legs again, in addition to the boot on the foot to straighten it so it lays flat instead of turned????

I hope someone with experience with the same gives some helpful advice.

Have you posted in the Emergency section of forum for advice?

Good luck with your little one.

I'm thinking it probably has a slipped tendon in its hip area, which if that's the case, it's too late to fix it I think. For some reason the leg is turned out

A boot won't work, cause the foot is fine, it's just the whole leg that is turned. I've not had any experience with slipped tendons, I know there's a way to fix them, but I believe it has to be done fairly soon. Did you post the pics in the emergencies forum? You should get a better response there. Make sure to put 'slipped tendon' and 'spraddle leg' in the title.

I just couldn't bear to give up, so last night, I called my husband in to help me fix her legs up again, but taping them just isn't going to work. When I pull the bad leg in, it pushes the top part of the leg into an unnatural positiong - the foot doesn't want to turn right-side up. The leg seems to be stuck in a permanently wrong position.

I did put the band-aid on her the first day she arrived, but that was still two days after she hatched. They shipped on Monday and we got the chicks on Wednesday. Maybe it was already too late or something else was wrong with the leg - slipped tendon or just deformed?

I'll go ahead and post this in the emergency section now - I didn't do that in the beginning because I thought she had the spraddle leg and thought I had already found the solution. I do have another chicken posted in that section right now, but still haven't figured out her problem.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

All right. How many got this special and ended up with a lot more than 10% roos? I'm starting to get miffed, but want to see if anyone else had this problem or whether I'm just jumping the gun...seems like too much wattle development in many of my birds...like 12.

Anyone?

Oh WOW!!!

If you ended up with that many roos, someone wasn't paying attention.

None of my 26 are looking like roos at all. I was expecting at least one, the one extra they sent at least.

Mine will be 6 wks old tomorrow.
