Hi all,
Where is a link to that trouble shooting page on the web that helps with questions, if this happened it may be caused by this, etc?
i've noticed at hatching time it seems a lot of our chicks are pipping and if they don't hurry up n zip and get out the membrane seems to be drying up and making it VERY difficult to get out, if at all.
Humidity stays 70-75+/-.
Don't know how to make them stay softer for them.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated from someone.
Need help.
Thank you,
Angela

If they are too dry warm water in a spray bottle on a very fine mist will help.

I would be calibrating your hygrometer after this hatch.

The troubleshooting page is stickied in the Read Me's at the top of this section. I think it's inside the first link once you go in there if I remember correctly. What is your humidity during incubation? Are the numbers you posted at hatch time, right? What day do they pip?

Hi,
They are hatching between 18 and day 21. Usually by 22 if they aren't thru, they aren't getting thru on their own. The membrane will be tuff by then. We use the Genesis 1588's.
Fill all water trays in bottom as well.

Maybe because of the fans in the 1588's they dry out faster?
I haven't heard anyone else having this problem and many use, and swear by, the 1588's...?

Thanks, we use an acurite temp/humidity meter. How do you calibrate those??
Will it hurt to open during day 18-21 and spray everyday a couple x's a day?

Angela, I have a couple thoughts based on your original response.

Hatching between days 18-21 - temps too high during incubation

All water troughs filled - do you mean they are filled during incubation as well? If so, you only fill the long trough for the first 18 days and then the middle trough at hatch time. High humidity could be causing the stuck in shell problems..it tends to make them gooey.

I hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for writing.
We use preset 1588's for hatching. I guess I could turn them down a notch?
They are supposed to be set just right and I didn't want to mess with them.

No, all troughs are not filled all the time, only from day 18 thru 21 to get humidity up.

All other times it is only one trough.

I'll turn down preset on them a notch, it runs steady at 100.
Maybe needs to be steady at 99.5.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Angela

And I don't know how gooey they are, they seem to be more dry and start to harden on chicks pretty fast. (membranes.)
