Wheres Their Poof!

Do silkies lose their poof? Or will these grow one? I dont remeber them looking like this when I got my silkie hens 3 years ago

I don't see any vaulting at all in those chicks. Any crest that they develop will probably be quite small. Hatchery chicks?

These came from tractor supply. Bad enough they have single combs.

Thats not really true. Some of my best crests come from non vaulted chicks (which I prefer, don't have to worry about them getting pecked or hitting their heads). The hen in my avatar doesn't have a vaulted skull. But, with them coming from TSC, they probably won't be the round puff balls you were expecting. Some hatcheries have ok Silkies, but not many.

Pandapaws, just for reference, please post pictures as they mature. Several weeks ago our local TSC had very nice silky chicks = mulberry combs and a moderate amount of vaulting. My gut is that they were not hatchery bred.

Incase anyone wanted to know how these turned out. All three chicks were males two had way to straight of a comb so I processed them and kept this one whos comb and feathering on his feet were better.

He really dont have a single comb the other two did. And I'm gonna breed him with my silkies as im not paying for show quality. These will be pet quality even then nothing sells here so if i get to many roos or uglier ones ill process them.
