Which Are Good Egg Layers White Chickens

My White Leghorn started laying in mid-August and has been laying continually since then. She probably misses one day out of every 2 - 3 weeks. She lays an occasional double yoker. Last week she layed a huge 82 gram egg!

I am hoping to get a couple of more White Leghorns in a mixed assortment of 10 layers in April. These feed store assortments usually have quite a few leghorns in them. If I don't get a couple I might just have to add one or two more birds to my April acquisitions. Don't tell my wife...

I have heard good things about California Whites and may get one this year. A couple of local feed stores are going to have them. I would like to know more about Rhode Island Whites but I have never seen any available locally.

I don't have experience with Delewares yet. I am getting two this spring.

My DH wanted a white chicken. We got a white rock. She's not laying just yet, but she is pretty, and friendly.

She's in the middle of my EE's

White Rocks are great! Very hardy and they lay nice big brown eggs. Two of my hens went broody and made great mothers here is a pic! If you cross a white rock hen with a RIR Roo the chicks that are yellow/white(chick in photo on the left) will be males and chicks that hatch out reddish (the one the right) will be females. This cross produces a red sex link that lays well.

I was watching Modern Marvels on the History Channel. They did a segment on eggs and said that the color of a hens earlobe determines the color of the egg. Has anyone ever heard this? Just wondering...

i DVR'd it to make sure that i did not hear them wrong. I have never heard that before and if it is true, no one has told my hens, they apparently do not know the rules. I have 10 RIR's and one of them lays a white egg (at lest white compared to the rest).

it is not white like you would buy at the store, but it is compared to the rest. Does a Red Leghorn look just like a RIR? How can you tell them apart?
