Not sure if this os in the right section.

A friend of a friend has asked me what breed of chicken would be suitable for a roof top garden in an apartment block.
I'm thinking bantam but I don't know which ones are the quietest. Silkies would probably be on the quieter side but what else?

I'd say silkies are the best all around chicken

I have a Black Cochin Bantam hen, Charli, and she can be one of the loudest girls in our flock of 13. She is the only bantam that we have, with all the others being standard sized Barred Rock, Buff Orpingtons, RIR, and EE. When Charli gets wound up over something, anything, she can sound like a goose!

To listen to Charli throw a fit over someone being in HER nesting box, watch this:

I think noise level is a bird-to-bird thing. One of our Barred Rock girls is pretty quiet. Another is so freaking loud....all the time.

Out of what I have had

RIR: squeaks softly more than clucks, very quiet sweet noises. Only when she want treats!
D'uccle: constantly makes noise but again, quiet just not as quiet as the RIR
Faverolle: tal talk talk talk talk talk TALK I'd say she made 'medium noise"
EE: make a very loud alarm noise at the slightest threat, she is a little flighty though, so maybe avoid the flighty ones?
Plymouth rock: VERY noisy BLAH BLAH BLAH I LAID AN EGG! BLAH BLAH HAVE YOU SEEN MY EGG YET? BLAH BLAH BLAH!!
