Which breed(s) is(are) best when you DON'T want a lot of eggs?

You could also look into picking up a few older hens that are beyond the prime laying and no longer desirable as production birds - plenty of folks would love someone who would take a less productive hen off their hands offering them a nice retirement home for the last years of her life.

I have Brahma and have been disappointed with too few eggs, they are beautiful and great pets. Mine are "Standard", hatchery brahma would lay lots of eggs.

Just a note about the silkies. I have three that tend to lay every other day, so I wouldn't count on getting one that just laid once a week.

My Black Cochin is a notorious poor layer. She will lay for about a month, and then she takes five or six months off. She reminds me that her job is to look gorgeous, not lay eggs, and I just need to deal with it. She has a bit of an "attitude".
