Which Breed?

Right now, I have 3 Cinnamon Queens & 2 Wyandotte chicks for egg laying. They are about a week old, and I am looking to buy one more, but I am not sure what breed I should get. One store in my town has some Australorps, and the other store is getting some more chickens in today. The Australorps seem pretty friendly, but I'm not sure if they are the best breed for egg laying. Does anyone have any suggestions for breeds? I am going to check in at the store to see what they have today. Thanks!!

Hey! Yes, Australorp chickens are extremely productive egg-layers! They can lay up to 300 eggs per year and they are a very docile friendly breed. I have not had any but hear amazing things from my neighbors who have some! They are a very common breed and a loved one many many.

Hi there, just to let you know the more eggs a hen lays a year, (such as a production mix) the shorter her lifespan and the more likely she is to get reproduction issues. Egg statistics are often padded on every breed, always subtract 30-50 for a more accurate production. Typically, feed stores don't let you take just one but you can always ask.
Australorps are good birds, mine liked to take turns being broody, but it could be my strain.

They are very good layers and have good personalities. The eggs are usually tinted, not a deep brown.

They sound great, but should I wait to buy them until I see what other breeds they bring in today?

I did not know that! I'm kinda new to this whole chicken thing. I was thinking about showing them my receipt from the other store that I bought my other chicks at. Thanks!

I love Australorps. My girl is 6 now, and she's really sweet. She's been the top hen her whole life, and she adopted and raised some chicks two years ago. She's also an amazing layer. Despite her age, she is still laying 2-3 eggs per week.

All of the chicks I have so far should have brown eggs too. I have heard that they are very friendly also.

Yes, they usually are. A lot depends on how they are raised and individual personality. That goes for all chickens.

If I was you I would wait to see what the store gets before deciding, just because they could get something you like even better.
