Which Breeds To Cross..ffa

Actually there is a 'chicken calculator' you can use to plug in colors and cross them and get the genotype and phenotype of that cross. It even allows you to save the resulting chickens and cross them together later so you can try multiple generational crosses. You can play with it to your hearts content. Kinda fun and educational at the same time:

And in case you haven't seen it, here is Henderson's Breed chart, a good general reference about chicken breeds:

Interesting project!

Your RIRxBR will get you a Black Sex-Link.

You might want to try a Brahma and cross it with a fast growing high egg production bird and see what happens. Brahmas are sure big and could be the meat bird half. You could even do a sex link if you did your RIR roo and crossed it with a Light Brahma hen=Red Sex Link.

Good Luck!

Following this line of thought, consider crossing Brahama w/ Turkens(Naked Necks). Naked Necks are used as a meat bird in France, and it is a good sized male normally. In the NN/Turken thread pgpoultry posted pics of her unplanned NN/brahma crosses and these chicks are not dainty swan necked chickens, rather they make me think of thick necked offensive linemen. The standard weights on a NN rooster is 8.5 lbs. If you research these breeds you may find it will provide a unique, but viable project.
