Ground squirrels are definitely rats with tails. Suicidal issues more so.
The other day we were driving down the road on the way home, and a ground squirrel shot out into the middle of the road way ahead, no cars, just us. It stopped in the middle of the oncoming lane, sat there, and someone in the car actually said, out loud, "He's gonna do it, don't you do it!" The squirrel turned around, and ran right back at the moment before we were passed and got ran over by both tires.
