How far south are we talking?
I lived in Virginia for a little over 4 years and the winter there was nothing compared to New York.

How's the armpit of the south's weather? Not 100s over here yet but the other day I spilled a cup of water on the asphalt and it disappeared within a minute.

Horrid. Left Louisiana with 97 F temps and 40% humidity for 102 F Texas heading for Utah. I can take heat pretty wel as long as it isn’t humid

This is absolutely true. 40 F may not seem that cold but when it’s humid and 40 F it’s cruddy

down here the cold in the winter is wet so yes it is not good most times. We do have some milder winters as well, though

I don't recall the research being about cold in the south specifically, but rather damp cold being bad vs places that don't deal with humidity.

I lived in Michigan for 4 years and though it was colder and snow it was easier to handle than winters down here.
