How can there be dominant white and recessive white?
Because they are carried on two completely different loci

How can there be dominant white and recessive white? And how are you supposed to tell the difference?
Dominant white often lets leakage through… but not always. The easiest way to be 100% sure is to test breed. Test the white bird to a known not white carrier. If any of the chicks are white, it’s dominant, and after multiple generations if none are white you get a pretty good idea that the bird is recessive white.

Most purebred white varieties are recessive white. The only exception (or the only exception I know of) being white leghorns, which are usually dominant white based.
