We don't have fireplaces or wood burning stoves. We have air conditioners. We die from being too hot or just barely cold.

We barely know what to do when it rains. We have no clue what to do when it snows. We are royally screwed if it ices.
So its not the cold, per se, it's just weather.

This tells me nothing
The electrical grid equipment in TX was not winterized sufficently for the cold they experienced and there were multiple cascading failures of the grid. This left people without power and water in houses that weren't really winterized either, and caused lots of problems, and led to people dying, sadly.

So its not the cold, per se, it's just weather.
It's the lack of experience and supplies.
Many people don't have a generator because they go to hotels in hurricanes or just do without power.
Many people just sat in chairs in their living rooms and froze to death rather than wrapping up in layers of clothing and blankets in bed with the dogs.
We had one heck of a time finding kerosene for our heater, and many people don't have one of those in the first place.
Water lines froze and people don't really know how to unfreeze or insulate them, some people don't even run bathtub water during a freeze.
We often don't have fireplaces because they're just dusty and useless. And because of our abundance of gas and electricity we don't use wood stoves.
Nobody here has chains for their car tires, and snowplows belong in museums for the most part.

That's because people in Canada are used to the cold. The winters are brutal, as you know. Texas winters are not, typically.
I meant people wouldnt die in 6 months of 30c/86f weather. Some would, for sure. But it wouldn't be considered a disaster

Ugly pants Oreo. This bird is going to look like a complete freak.
