We do all our own preventative maintenance but it's fun watching her talk to people. It's the typical car guy talking to a "know nothing girl" and she just destroys them. It's great. She's talking fuel trim curves and timing degree advance or retard . And I'm like "yeah what she said" I can run codes but that's about it on the diagnostics side. I just change the parts.
Her knowledge of the electronic side of cars started years ago when she had a chevy cavalier and the sunroof came off the track on one side. She brought it to the dealer to get fixed and when they brought it to the back she called and told me they said they were "putting it on the machine" to see why it did that. Yes they were trying to charge her a diagnostic fee for a mechanical problem!! I told her tell them don't put it on the machine that's a mechanical not an electrical problem. Since then she swore she'd never be taken by someone thinking they could swindle her in regards to her car. And since then they haven't

absolutely epic. i love that.

reminds me of my wife at our rental properties before we had managers in place and a steady maintenance/contractor team set up for each.

when we were still trialing contractors, they would try upcharging her on everything because they saw an easy mark with a woman on site. she’d leave with their balls in her purse because she knows all the local building codes, what materials will work better for different applications, and what they were tacking on that was completely unnecessary.

That’ll do it! I sound like grandpa Jones, but I tend to forget the tenacity of young people. When we were just starting out (mid to late 20s), we always did what was necessary and never thought “we can’t do this.” It’s hard to find that now. Y’all should start a YT channel!
