So you think free ranging a mixed flock might be better suited to the Saxonys? I wouldn't mix breeds.Yes more dux, and maybe a different drake. Not all WH are bad boys, but they're just known for that high libido.
My saxony ducks lay wayyyy too many eggs for me to eat. They're worth it, and they forage all. day. long. So feed intake won't be much more than WH feed.
Free ranging them would be great if you're planning on keeping a mixed flock.
welcome to True factsOkay that is truly gross and terrifying.
Yes. WH forage like crazy, but saxony are more chill and like to be lazy potatoes so they're a safer option for your chickens. So you think free ranging a mixed flock might be better suited to the Saxonys? I wouldn't mix breeds.
Well that's wonderful. I wish DH would just trust me sometimes. There are literally no Saxonys anywhere. Except drake's. Lots and lots of drakes...Yes. WH forage like crazy, but saxony are more chill and like to be lazy potatoes so they're a safer option for your chickens.
My whole saxony and buff flock eats one scoop of feed between them, they also have a run covered in perfectly trimmed grass. They maintain healthy weight and give lots of big eggs.
The WH are higher production so I give them more feed, they also destroyed my grass![]()
I love em, they're a fantastic addition to my homestead.Well that's wonderful.
Well I'm sure one look at WH was all it took to woo him over to their sideI wish DH would just trust me sometimes.

They're a wonderful breed as well, just not the safest with chickens.
