Sometimes in general. I've seen plenty of guys who use wooden cutting boards when prepping meat, then use their unwashed hands to season the meat and pull spices from the jars with their fingers. There's also drying hands on the backside of their pants, drying them on your shirt isn't sanitary either, but I'd rather not see someone rub their butt after washing their hands.
Yeah those aren't great things. It's so easy to premix spices in a prep bowl and to toss a towel over your shoulder while you cook. I use a lot of wooden cutting boards, I prefer them. Except for poultry. I have 2 specific bird prep boards that are thick plastic and are only used to prep poultry on. I don't want that x-contamination on my butcher block cutting surfaces. I'm not a germophobe, but I don't like the meat juices all over my hands when I'm cooking so I wash fairly frequently during the prep process. I think it takes less effort to pre-prep and have everything you need ready to go than it takes grabbing things as you go along. You are also limiting the area of potential carnage in your kitchen to clean up after. :p

Am I an exception? Maybe. But I did food service jobs when I was younger and I cook with a friend who is a trained chef, and I pick up cues from him.

I prep before I cook or bake, every time. I thought that's how everyone did it? Why would someone not have everything out, ready to go? Common sense to me

You have the type of cooking practices that I wish more people in general would use, male or female.
I mostly have plastic and glass cutting boards. Plastic for veggies and glass for everything else, but glass is LOUD so I'm thinking I need some bamboo cutting boards soon.

I'm not really a germophobe, but my mother is, so ever since I was about eight I've had her hanging over my shoulder telling me how to keep things clean while cooking. Then I went on to do food competitions in my teen years which also made me a bit of a cooking nazi.

Honestly, I've found the most difficult thing to get people to do is cleaning as you go. I've taught all my kids to cook, and they all seem astonished at the concept. Even if it's just rinsing quickly and then doing dishes after, it's way less hassle than letting it all pile up in the sink. Especially when that food coma sets in after a good meal. No one wants to go clean the kitchen up after undoing the top button of their trousers and taking up residence on the sofa. :p

Most of the time I just wing it😂🙈. I don't even meal plan in most cases. My freezer is full of all kinds of random cuts of meat since I raise piggies, rabbits and chickens, so dinner is always a surprise, and while I try to pull things out in advance it just rarely works out so smoothly.

That's my downfall when I cook. I just pile things in the sink as I go then have to clean up after

Y'all must be judging types. I'm all over the place in the kitchen and I find a lot of enjoyment in just grabbing random things and mixing them together

Oh, I wing dinner ideas but once I know what I'm cooking, I prep it all out
