Exactly. Also I’m sure they would’ve eaten if left out and give them no other choice. You are a fool if you waste that food. With the price of things continually going up. Mix it in their current food if you want, or water it down to make a mash, they will eat it then. Offer only to the pullets if people have you freaking about the calcium for the cockerel. But don't waste it
For criminy sake, they'll eat styrofoam, they'll eat anything!Exactly. Also I’m sure they would’ve eaten if left out and give them no other choice.

ASo like, do we hug it out now or something?![]()
My chickens would starve if they got pickyI don't know what to do with all these bags of food that are piled in my garage. I had to keep rebuying because the girls refused to touch almost all of it because they were pellets. And now I can't use the rest of the grower/starter or layer crumbles/pellets. *smh*
Ah well. Live and learn.
Thank you. I'm sort of interested in coprophagy right now. When people describe how their grandparents raised barnyard chickens with very low feed costs they conveniently forget to mention eating shit, especially when it is from other species. Going back even further you have to wonder if ancient chickens visited the latrine of ancient humans. They dig through pig and cow manure for most of their food.
If the chickens aren't there, you get mice, rats and other undesirables doing the cleanup job around large livestock. Makes a lot of sense to me to have chickens in the barn. They'll eat bugs, ticks, fly larvae, spilled food and all kinds of things that need cleaning up.Thank you. I'm sort of interested in coprophagy right now. Hey, it's just biology, right?
