I've literally, never had any of that happen before. And I've been freezing salted butter, in the original container, for yearsYes but there are rules to this. It's only good for about a year before it starts losing flavor and the texture starts to crystalize. Also, make sure to put it in some kind of plastic wrap or ziplock, even if it's still in the original container. Butter soaks odors like a beast and it'll pick up any odd funk you may have from other things in the freezer as they freeze. Also, salted butter tends to concentrate the saltiness when frozen, so be aware it may be a little stronger.
