no whales out in the haro strait this morning, but still an awesome hike in to the lookout for some amazing views of the salish sea and mounts rainier and olympus across the way. we didn't have high hopes anyway. apparently we’re just outside of prime season for whale sightings.

decided against heading out on a tour boat because it was freezing and also being trapped on a boat with a toddler who may or may not want to be there just sounded miserable for everyone.

That's so pretty. I think I'd like the idea of whale watching in a boat, but then I think I might freak out because they are big and the ocean is bigger, and the boat is very small.

That's so pretty. I think I'd like the idea of whale watching in a boat, but then I think I might freak out because they are big and the ocean is bigger, and the boat is very small.

we’ve done it once. that wasn’t the part that turned me off to it. it’s the half-day commitment with 0 guarantee you’ll see anything.

apparently here, during the season, they come and play right near the shore in big groups.

obviously not my picture, but this is pretty much right where we were.
