To find out who was laying the whopper egg. Then, I'd get more of THAT breed. I have a feeling it was my Isa. If I had dye, I could test my theory.

I could see a couple of different scenarios where it might be important to be able to tell which hen laid what. I've heard you can use lipstick, too. I just can't imagine myself making a chickens butt "pretty", but you never know...

Have 6 different laying boxes, but they only use 3 of them. So, how would different boxes help anyways? More than 1 chicken uses a box.

I asked this question, because I thought, a couple years ago, someone figured a way to be able to tell who laid what, but forgot how they did that. Oh well, I'm shooting for the Isa's! TSC says they are the egg laying machines over RIR, hands down.

That's where we bought our ISA girls... We have twelve. We have gotten some double yolks too. If you want a lot of large brown, they can't be beat in our opinion.

Why even do that?

Lol. In a large flock you can see if a questionable hen is laying or not, or identify who is laying deformed eggs. You could separate but for a lot of hens that’s a lot of work and stress for everyone. But yes it is pretty silly sounding even though it works.

My buff Orpingtons lay eggs so giant they don’t fit into any egg containers. It’s crazy. It’s a medium-brown and just massive.
