Most people recommend 4 sq feet of coop space per standard sized bird. This is if they have ample run space year round. (I don't know about ducks, I don't own any) Do the math. 5x8=40sqft/20 chickens=2sqft per bird. With a coop this size you would need to have less than 10 birds so that during the snow storm you just had they won't peck each other to death because they are in such close quarters.
My large coop is 8x8=64 sqft I had 8 hens =5.3sqft per bird and I'm in an area of NC that has very mild winters most years. My main run is 40x80 for those 8 birds.
