We are trying to decide which coop we should use, a 7x7 rubbermaid shed or have a coop build from the purina mills plan enlarged to 4x8. We have 6 black star chicks that are 4 weeks old and growing FAST. I know with the rubbermaid shed we will have to cut in windows and possibly put in a screen door. My husband want the rubbermaid saying it will be easier to clean but I am worried about the heat and humidity. Has anyone in Florida used the rubbermaid sheds as a coop? Thanks!!

I have 7x7 rubbermaid shed that we originally got it for storage but never made it that far. We used it for a coop instead. I can tell you, yes it is very easy to clean it however, since it's rubber, plastic, it will get pretty hot in there if you don't have good ventilation. But if you can make enough ventilation and use plexi glass as windows and use mesh wiring (predator proof) I say why not. Good luck and keep us posted.

Btw, you can see it on my byc page.

I chose a plastic coop over wood for cleaning reasons. I have an Eglu which has good ventilation and it seems great so far. I think with plenty of ventilation the rubbermaid sound fine and I'm seeing them used more and more. Maybe you can check Craigslist for a super good deal on one. Then if you don't like it you can always go a different route.

Thanks for your help! Now to make the big decision and soon!!
