I intend to start a hatch of Delaware eggs. I was wondering which would be the best to put in the incubator to hatch. I have 4 hens and their eggs range in color from peachy/tan to dark brown with spots. Or does it make no difference?
Some of these hens have barring on the neck and black on the tail others have little or no barring on the neck and just a little blk on the tail.
The roo has barring on his tail and neck and acrossed his back and wings.
But I guess that doesn't matter since I'm doing this for the experience.
Is egg color ever a point in breeding other than marans of course?

I'm partial to the peachy tan, but I'll bet Cyn or other Dellie breeders would have some points to consider.

I just wondered whether you can tell which will produce the best chicks standardwise. I'm not sure which hen laid which egg but it does help since there are only 4.

I'm not sure if it is going to make a difference. Maybe try some of each and document your findings. I have done the same with Marans eggs. Often the lighter colored eggs produce a chick that is of equal or better quality than a color 7 or 8 on the coloring chart.

Good luck!

That's why I asked. One of the Dels lays really dark spotted eggs. The other are different shades of peachy/tan.
I do have CM's and may breed them so that is good to know, but I'd just like to stay close to the standard. No sense in perpetuating second class chickens. Boy am I a snob, but then all my kids are first class too.
