Which hatchery is best?

I can't say who to order from but I will say I like ideal. This was my first time having chicks shipped to me and anytime i called their hatchery they was so nice and helping. I ordered 8 buff silkie chicks IN THE WINTER TO BEAT IT ALL. Only 1 was dead when they arrived and i called them right away and they refunded my money on that chick.

My aunt is having some stress problems with her chicks but my 6 are doing great.

I'm a new to chickens this past year and I ordered from My Pet Chicken 26 chicks out of the 26 One I think is a roo no crowing yet! but it looks to be a roo. They are just 19 weeks old some have started to lay. I will Order from them (MPC) this spring very nice people to talk with if you have any question and they will also refund me for the roo. I had great luck with my chicks

I don't know if there is any best hatchery. I have gotten all of my chicks from Ideal. I live in Florida and Ideal is in Texas so I feel I don't have any weather concerns about getting my chicks. I have only lost one chick. It arrived alive but wouldn't drink or eat no matter how hard I tried and it died. When I ordered the next time I got extras. I ordered all pullets and one little Roo did get mixed in. No complaints.

I remember those days, picking the breed, savoring the thought of those wonderful peeps, finally getting the chicks, setting them up, checking and then rechecking that they are safe and warm, making liitle poop sheilds out of paper towels so the kids can hold them while watching TV.........and then the long 6 month wait where all you do is feed/water/cleanup without a single egg.

If I were starting out again I would go to craigslist and find a local chickeneer that has some nice hens and chicks for sale, raise the chicks, and eat the chicken fruit from the hens. A lot less headache and an instant reward, fresh eggs now instead of mid July and the whole deal will probably cost less than shipping from one of the mega hatcheries.

I am planning on ordering from Sandhill Preservation in a couple of weeks. I chose them because they have many of the endangered and/or unique breeds that other hatcheries do not have.
