Which Incubator to buy?

Thanks!! We just bought this house last year and its on just over an acre and we are just now getting to the fun parts of doing things on it. Last year was dedicated to trying to manage the weeds!! I was super excited about how the brooder came out. It's probably the nicest thing I have built lol. I started it when my hubby was at work and we worked together after he came home. It gives me hope for the chicken coop which we need to start and finish tomorrow (hopefully, we have been saying this for weeks now!!). We finally have all the wood cut to size so it just needs to be pieced together now. The roof may be a bit of a challenge though lol.

So much fun isn't it...I can't wait and building stuff is addictive. Next your ripping out closets and redoing those too. I will offer my 2 cents on the floor of your little houses. Don't use linoleum, I did and I had a huge problem with them slipping.. I think when I get my place I will just look for cheap rough tile and lay it. Something that they can walk on if the wood chips get spread out too thin.. I have a rooster that has a permanent limp due to the bad floor. I wanted to take him to a vet but they wanted 65.00 for the appointment.......

Thanks for looking out! I just painted the bottom with some barn/fence white paint that is mildew resistant. The idea being that if they get messy down to the wood at least I can clean it with a rag using soap and water. With puppies you get the same problem for flooring in a whelping box. You have to buy the tiles that are somewhat rough and provide traction or else you get puppies that are called "swimmers" that just scoot around on their fat bellies and don't learn to walk; it's very bad for them!

If we're strictly talking non-styrofoam incubators the Octagon 20 is a great incubator if you're willing to spend the extra money, but as you're wanting to stay under $200 the IncuView sounds like your best option. The Octagon 20 holds only 20 chicken eggs, the IncuView holds 27. Let me know if you have any questions about it. This could also be a good resource to help you decide on an incubator: Incubator Table.

Why is the Incuview better than the Hova-bator 1588?

I personally like the Incuview Incubator and plan on buying one when I have the money. The thing I like about the Incuview is it's NON styrofoam and looks easy to keep clean and the viewing area is awesome over the hovabator.

ahhh swimmers...... sounds so cute but devastating. Good luck with everything..... great site isn't this.. just love it. Because of this site I was able to hatch out my little stuck chicky out of its egg.

Do you have an incubator now, if so what are you using and what do you NOT like about it? The Incuview looks nice but I was hoping for something with a higher egg capacity.

It is a great site! I lurked a bit probably around a year ago and again earlier this year just before I got my babies and then i decided to join once I had them. It's always great to find people to talk to things about that you are really into. Lots of people on here seem to be equally chicken crazy which makes for fun conversation and a wealth of shared knowledge. It also means I only talk my hubby's ear off half the time instead of 24/7. He indulges my crazy chicken talk (he's too sweet to do anything to discourage it) but he doesn't really get it lol.

I am currently using a homemade incubator. The reason I don't like my homemade is only because I can't fit an egg turner in it (but the incubator cost pennies on the dollar for store bought, so turning by hand is nothing). While the eggs capacity is lacking on the incuview, which isn't a big deal to me because I don't hatch more than a dozen eggs at a time. I just really really really like the view factor over the hovabator (JMHO).

And I wish you a very warm and heartfelt welcome TattooedMama. This forum is the greatest one bar none.
