Which Incubator to get?

Cardboard box with a light bulb sticked in it works for some people too and it beats a price of any commercial bator.

I have used the LG 9100 and the 1602 Hovabator but none of them equal the hatch rates of the Hovabator 1588 with egg turner. I have had 3 hatches in the Gensis 1588 and out of 42 eggs the worst hatch I had was 37 chicks. I bought the cheaper model Hovabator first but trust me i would pay a little more now rather then later .

If I did not buy the Gensis 1588 I would buy the Brinsea 20. Both are so easy to use and have great hatch rates.

The LG incubator has many fans and just as many if not more haters. I had an LG still air and had many problems, I added a fan and still had problems. Might be i got a bad one but i got a hova-bator 1602n for x-mas and tried that one. The hova was good from the get go with little or no problems. I added a fan and had MOSTLY good hatches. Most of what i have read on the hova has been good while the LG has been mixed at best. My local feed store sells the 1602 for $47 and the turner for $41 so it is a very cost effective incubator. It does not matter which one you buy because once you hatch out your first chicks you will be hooked for life. And to feed your addiction you will need a bigger incubator so these styrofoam incubators will be just a learning tool on your way to being a full blown addict. I'm waiting for my new Brinsea Eco but my used once LG is calling to me. It is a still air and no turner. I used it once so long ago I don't even remember what happened, but it looks new. Should I use it for a brooder or get a turner and a fan and give it a try? I'm anxious to get started....

I got my hova bator 1602n with fan and turner, put my first set of eggs in yesterday and it has held good temps. Paid 120 bucks, shipped

Do yourself a favor and forget the LG....it will just be a night mare...go with the brinsea eco 20 for 100.00. You will be glad you did! Take it from me I just bought 2.

Have been very disappointed with both the Hovabators and LGs. I haven't tried one, but the ReptiPro looks like a great incubator and a decent value. I am hoping to invest in one soon.

If you want to get a quality incubator at less than $150, your only option really is the Octagon 20 Eco. Great incubator and for only $99. I bought my Hovabator 1588 for about $180. It was expensive, probably more so because I ordered it from Canada. (But most places have it for no less than $150 from what I understand). The 1588 Genesis is comparable to the Eco but I'd say, still not as good, but it holds more. If you don't absolutely need the size, go for the Eco. In fact, the mini Eco even, as that's quite inexpensive. But the Octagon 20 Eco holds about 24 chicken eggs. Eco without autoturn cradle (and mini Eco) requires hand-turning but I feel that these incubators will be far better than any other similarly priced incubator. The mini Eco is on sale for $64.99. That's basically a give away if you only need a 6 egg capacity incubator. Deal on the Octagon Eco is great as well though.

If you are thinking of going with the Reptipro, I would recommend it. I'm using it, and I give it a 3 out of 4 stars. The only reason it doesn't get 4 stars is that it does not hold a lot of eggs & you can't incubate on the bottom shelf (there's about a 5-degree or so temperature discrepancy between the bottom and the top for some reason). I have 32 eggs in there right now, but half of them are banties. Otherwise, it will only really comfortably hold about 2 dozen standard size chicken eggs to incubate and hatch comfortably. And you have to add something like craft plastic to the shelves to extend them out to the door so the hatchlings do not fall through to the bottom and get hurt.
