Which is the best hatcheries to buy chicks from in the US

I'm from Connecticut they have chick days at Benedict's in Monroe I'm not sure if their sex though and they have all female chicks at Agway with they only got four kinds all females and then Tractor Supply they have of been a female's or two and the rest are straight runs..
As for the lackenvelders I heard the same thing about leghorns and all mine have turned out to be very nice and I've had all different batches over the past 20 years I guess it's one of those buy it and try it things.... I am definitely leaning towards getting at least five Easter Eggers and a mix of the other 10 some of the name of that I can't even pronounce I definitely want one or two brown leghorns for a change I can't believe the prices on some of these chicks some of them are 11 to $18 each and that's for straight runs.... I definitely will not be getting those but I've had speckled Sussex in the past and they are beautiful birds although their eggs are on the smaller side I've had golden laced Wyandotte and Silver Laced wyandottes and they actually laid almost daily and their eggs size are actually pretty good and they are on the lighter brown color but I want less common breeds a nice rainbow of chickens as long as they lay eggs I'm not too concerned about how many

When you have room, why not buy it and try it? I agree. The Lakenvelders are beautiful birds anyway. I rehomed mine before eggs.

we have golden and silver Wyandottes and I find them very entertaining. They are also pretty consistent layers for us as well. I am like you. I’m happy with the eggs we get and we often have eggs to give away.

This year I’m getting a few Ameraucanas or what passes for them and possibly a couple Lavender Orpingtons. I’m hatching some d’Uccle eggs right now. I love the little things but they can’t free range here like my big chickens because I worry about hawks.

oh chicken math!:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy

The d'Uccles are also on my curiosity list!!! I haven't had bantams since I was a kid.... but since now that I'm deciding to get hamburg's I'm not going to try to write the other name and other large fowl that are on the smaller side.. I might give them a try some of these hatcheries have me cracking up when I see straight run price $4 in for a female it's $18 certain types like the d'uccles. Lol and I will be so mad if I got that one chick and it turned out to be a male I don't know why hatcheries are doing this I know the popularity of back yard chickens has skyrocketed but I've been in the game since the early nineties when I used to be weird for having chickens......🤔🤔... I'm only 36 but even I could remember I used to order online back in 2005-2006 and the chicks were like a dollar change for females..... and if you found them at the feed stores forget about it they were like a dollar...
.
I still want an Easter Egger or for I didn't used to like their muffs but now I don't care I like having the variety of egg colors now I want some green some blue some white some brown something in between... and I also want to look into my yard and see all different color chickens I've spent too many years just playing it safe getting all red crosses or black crosses a couple a years ago I went around to like 4 feed stores and I got several from each and it was wonderful but now I don't want to wait all the way until May or April
