Greetings great people. I have a dilemma and need some help. I have some chickens that are 9 months old, laying well, and 7 that are almost 3 years old. The problem is, I can't tell them apart as thy are all Gold sex-links. I need to cull the older ones so I can save on feed. They need to go to someone's dinner table. I cannot tell them apart very easily. A friend promised to come get them but never did, and now they all look alike and pretty much the same age. How do I know which are the 3 year olds? Advice is needed! Then you.

Look at their legs and their beaks. Older birds, tend to look old there. The beak is thicker, and so are the legs. Separate two or three at a time. And then see what they lay.

The older girls will be laying less often, if at all this time of year, but larger eggs. The younger girls will come into lay sooner in the spring, may have laid all winter. Their eggs will be closer to every day, and a bit smaller.

I'll get my wife to look. These old eyes don't see so good anymore.
I only have the one coop, so no place to separate them. Thank you.
