After noticing my supposedly all female geese were laying fertile eggs, I’ve been trying to figure out which one is the boy. I believe It’s one of these two. The one with the larger knob is who I’m leaning towards, but in the past I have seen this one hanging out in the coop and thought it was laying.

I don’t have Africans myself so I’m unfamiliar with them but the big knobed one does look like a gander, though they both have the tall upright postures I’m used to seeing in Toulouse ganders, but like I said I’m unfamiliar with this breed.

Nesting behavior also isn’t always a girl thing in geese, I have two ganders that like to play daddy and will kick the girls off their nest to sit on the eggs for a few minutes or build a nest around an overturned bowl and sit on it.

Now I’m not sure I can rule out the other brown Chinese goose as, from what I understand, the males have larger knobs and that goose that I’ve kicked off the nest multiple times (and assume is the one laying the eggs) has the largest knob (not by much but still bigger). I can hear one of them making a trumpeting noise sometimes but can’t tell who it is in all the commotion.

Here is a picture of the one that I find sitting on the eggs the most. Thinking this is the boy now as s/he makes a higher pitch noise (sometimes).
