So I have a dession to make I want a baby chick who will start to lay early and go broody but don't know what breed to chose from either a Americana or bared rock which baby chicks should I get

In my experience, Easter Eggers (Hatchery Ameracaunas) are more likely to go broody than Barred Rocks are. I've only ever had one broody Barred Rock out of eleven hens.

But if you want a good broody, go with a silkie, a cochin, a buff orpington, or a game bird. If you want an early layer, get a production bird. The two usually don't overlap.

EDT: X2, Grey Mare. I seem to be crossposting a lot today.

Barred rocks start laying earlier but I have had both breeds and none of them have ever gone broody.Sorry I can't think of any breeds that start laying early and go broody but do a little research because theres got to be some.

DEFINATELY barred rock if you want early layer and broody! I have a flock of 10 of them and they just love to sit on their eggs!

Thats interesting.I've never had one that went broody so I guess it just depends on the hen.

They are both good egg layers
