Which one should I get?

Is it better to get hens or cockerels? What age do you butcher them at? Do they have bantam meat breeds? Is size the only difference?

If you're gonna eat them, gender doesn't matter.

Cornish crosses (cornish rocks, etc. there's a few diff names) are the store chickens, and most likely what you think of as a meat chicken, you'll order them as chicks from the hatchery, and they butcher ~ 8 weeks old.

A bantam is a tiny chicken, a meat bantam... let's say no, but if you wanna butcher some cornich mixes young for "cornish game hens" you can.

With Cornish X's, the only real difference is that at 8 weeks, the roos will be a bit bigger than the hens.
