Last word here on examining a birds backside....it needn't be 'traumatic' for either bird nor keeper. It's good to get to know your birds anatomy and get them used to handling and examination all over their bodies. I pull my birds and give them the once over every couple weeks or so, looking for bugs and any other issues. They get used to it and are fine with it. Apologies to @Sandstorm for diverting your thread. This is where common sense comes in. Go with aart on this one if there is a need. No need at this time. If the color of the egg does not first match the hen. No need to traumatize both owner and hen further.
Keep in mind pics online are of the bestest eggs, advertisements do not always match the product in your hands. Every bird and line of birds differ...hope for the best, be ready for the worst.I took some screenshots of the barnevelder egg pictures that I've seen and I'm attaching them.
