This is my first year raising chickens and I'm thinking of keeping a roo with my 15 hens. I have 7 now and am not sure which to keep if my hens decide to set on some eggs. The hens I have are New Hampshire, black australorp, Americauna, Deleware, Brabanter, Barred Rock, and Silver Laced Polish. I have 5 New Hamp roos and 2 Black Australorp roos. I'm guessing the BA would be dominant in any chicks? Not sure, just looking for some input on which would give me some variety in looks depending on which hens eggs were hatched. Not looking to sell chicks, this would just be for my own flock. Thanks!

I would pick based on personality. Keep the ones that respect you the most. I would keep two, at least at first - one your first choice, and another in case something happens to the first, or if he gets aggressive and he has to go.

Thanks :) I only thought of keeping one because I was told they would start fighting. Right now they are about 13 weeks old and seem to get along for the most part ( a few squabbles here and there). I was curious if the NH would be the dominant coloring for all the chicks (I know it depends on which breed's egg I choose, too.) I was thinking that with the BA, they would probably mostly be all black.

You could always keep one of each and see what happens with chick color :) I have two roos and they get along fine, so yours will likely be okay if they grew up together.
