Which Roo to keep?

I have 2 roos left of May 1st hatch, a speckled sussex and a Crevecoeur. My intention was to keep the Crevecoeur based on breed and size. All the girls are are medium to small breeds (not bantams) and I couldn't invision a giant Sussex with my tiny svarthona. I don't plan on breeding, just flock protection. Should I be concerned about size difference?

Though theyre only 3 months, I've noticed the hens seem to rally around the sussex. He seems to be a great watchdog. The crevecoeur seems in his own world oblivious of the hens. Is it too early to be looking for guard dog behavior?

I have found a great home for the sussex and delivering him next weekend. I am getting cold feet. Am I giving away the better roo?

A lot of people would follow the hens lead. This is what I would do, pull the one you are giving away before you do give him away, and see how the flock reacts. If you have enough time, try pulling the other one, and seeing the reaction.

Often times when roosters are separated it changes their behavior, especially if they are left with a flock of girls. But is might take a couple of days. Then decide which one you are going to give away.

If you've already promised him, I wouldn't back out.

I don't plan on breeding, just flock protection.

Can't really count on this anyway.
