You can keep both and let them grow up before you make a choise. That way you will see their personilty before you get rid of one. Depending on where you got the chicks from will tell how mean the roosters will be. MM and Ideal is known for having a mean line of rocks. So many of their roosters are mean. Those that come from the small hatcheirs seem to be alot nicer. It will also depend on how you have your chickens. Do you plan to free range or keep them penned? If you plan on free ranging keep the rock they are good protectors of the flock, orps tend to be more lazy and not as protective. If penned then keep the orp they will be more calm with close quaters. If you plan on breeding keep the rock since you have more rocks than orps.

I have to agree with waiting till they are a little older and see how their own individual personality develops. Some Roos can be mean regardless you just never know.

but I also have to agree with cybercat on determining how you are going to be raising your flock and what kind of living conditions they will have.

I have a BR roo that I just love. He's very observant when the girls are out free ranging and calls the girls very sweetly when he finds a tasty treat for them.
I have witnessed many times when my Colonel has noticed a hawk flying close that he makes a funny little trill and all the girls freeze and watch the sky too, and
when he tells them okay then they'll either go back to foraging or go to cover depending on his response. He's very protective when a girl raises a comotion he comes running
to check it out and make sure everything is okay.

He is not very social with humans, but he wasn't brought up that way either. He doesn't chase us or attack us, he will try to peck me if I go to pick him up off of his roost, but he's just conveying that he doesn't like the close contact, and some of my girls will do the same thing. If I walk up to him or near him he'll just back away untill he's at a comfortable distance. My chickens are not lap pets, they are just chickens that I enjoy watching and getting eggs from, they free range when I'm home and are in their pen when I'm not. My BR does his job and is not mean to the ladies and some of them adore him and follow him everywhere.

I raised two roo boys from my Br this fall and they were just like him, they were fearful of humans but treated the girls right and did their jobs of watching for bad things, the only complaint about them is one was a little more seeking the love making with the unwilling girls, he was also the more dominant of the two. THey were just coming into their
adolecence when I rehomed them and would probably settle down as they got older.\\

They were all very handsome roos with their barred coloring, I'll be sad the day my Colonel isn't with us anylonger.

I will say this tho, there are too many Roosters out there to be stuck with a bad, so if you get one that turns out mean or bad, and maybe they both will or won't, get rid of him and get one that you'll be happy with and one that treats the girls right and doesn't attack you.

I agree with letting them grow up a bit before you pick, but I too have had a nasty BR.
At 4 months, we culled all but 5 of our roos. We saved the nicest 2 (BLRW, SPW), the silkie (we didn't know he was a he yet) the most protective (SLW), and the prettiest of our BRs. We don't expect our chickens to be lap-tame, but we DO expect them to respect us. We ended up putting mister Kabob the barred rock into the freezer when he began leaping up and kicking his spurs at the kids (age 4 and 5) He was about 6 or 7 months old then, I think. But he had never, till then, showed that tendency.

I say keep both till one condemns himself with his actions.

Maybe you will get lucky and both will be good, and you can keep them, or pick the prettier one. But I am suspicous of BR's. My BR hen is a darling, but never again will I keep boys.
