Which rooster would you keep with this flock?

I have a French Black Copper Maran, Buff Laced Brahma, Ameraucana, 2 Jersey Giants, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Buff Orpingtons and 2 Wheatens. I believe my FBCM, one Buff and one BR are roosters. I wasn't planning on keeping any roosters, but I think I might change my mind. I'll be taking personality into consideration as well, but from a breed and breeding standpoint, I'd like some opinions.

What hens do you have ( list breed and number per breed ) ? I would say keep the Brahma

. Mine have never gotten mean with me or even thought of it. They are calm too which is a plus.

All of them are hens except for the Copper Maran, a Buff and a Barred Rock. But I'm with you on the Brahma! It was going to be my exception anyway.

Oh I see what you did now

. Buff Orpington roosters can sometimes be mean and my white Plymouth rocks were devils. Not sure on the FBCM. My final choice is the brahma.

Only problem with the Brahma, though I do think that their personalities are awesome.....is that they can be heavy.

So, a heavy rooster is more likely to tear up the back feathers on the hens.

That is why I now try to have only bantam roosters with my standard hens. I might try a standard rooster again though, because the bantam roosters I have had never seam to have a good crow.

The problem with roosters though, is you just won't know until they are mostly grown, what kind of personality they have. If there is any way to keep them all until they are old enough to see their personalities that would be best.

How old are you thinking?? This is my first flock.

well 6 months old is when their hormones kick in and they will be going nuts mating fighting and aggressive then so after that is best to see how they are .. i have a bunch of roosters all mine are nice but one and he is just not use to me much my mom always went out to the birds in the morning so the roosters will see the person who takes care of them the alpha rooster but if they get aggressive then i get a stick and swat them on the butt not to hard but to show i will fight back with them .. my alpha rooster is a baby with me he will sit on my lap and eat treats out of my hand and he wont peck me but when he was 6 months old he was aggressive

Hard to say. I have two roosters that I believe are a mix. One was sweet when he was young and the other one was distant and indifferent. Almost two years later tge sweet one is very mean and the distant one is a lap baby

In my three brahma breeding pens I have one male covering two hens. Not one of my hens has a torn up back or anything. I think it would depend more upon the individual male than Brahmas in general. I personally won't keep a male that is overly aggressive to his hens or me for that matter. Like today for instance my one brahma male chick that I hatched out a month ago is starting to get mean with some of it's siblings so I decided to mark this one and toss it in the cull coop and raise it for meat. This is one of my buff x light males so I'm being really picky on who I'm keeping.

What about when it comes to hatching raising chicks?? I feel like I'd lean towards the Maran, over the BR or Orp, but wouldn't that turn all my blue eggs from the Wheatens and EEs?
