I'm getting ready for lock down and bought a new thermometer/hydrometer combo from walmart for the bator. I left the old one in there (the $0.99 one from walmart) to compare and the old one was 4 degrees higher. I then put in the one that came with the incubator and it has the same temp as the cheap one from walmart. Is it safe to assume the expensive thermometer is not correct?

We have all had the same problem. My expensive one was the most off and the hydrometer with it did not work.

Spend a couple more dollars and go to a pet store and get an aquarium thermometer. While you are there get the hygrometer that goes in a reptile tank.

Then average your temps. The reptile hygrometer served me quite well this last hatch. Had it right next to the expensive on that I did calibrate.....expensive one never changed much and when I went into lock down not at all.

I had a really good hatch with 38 out of 40 hatched.

I've been really considering buying a reptile hygrometer...seems like everyone likes them!
