well, 2 weeks of trying to stabilize my incubator temp with a crappy thermostat, i finally gave up.
it fluctuates too much and its hard to control.

so i decided to buy a new and reliable one but im not sure what will i choose from these two:

a digital heat controller made specifically for air conditioning, brooding chicks, warming aquariums and incubating reptile and poultry eggs. temp range is from -9 to 38 degrees C. has a very sensitive probe sensor (according to the seller) and temp fluctuates half a degree (max) depending on outside temp.

OR a wafer thermostat with a good reputation from chicken keepers. i really don't know about it much.

thanks. all replies are appreciated. :D

Sorry for the bad results of the other thermostat. What thermostat was it.

I would go with the wafer thermostat, they are easy to use, and last forever. Of course the wafers have to be replaced every once in a while.

I think the digital thermostat is cool, but when they go out, you have to buy another one.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Incubator-T...800?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35aadf8830... I was kind of leery of these, but I ordered 2 of them. I installed one of them and I can only say I am very happy with it. It is holding temperature great so far. Has had no more than a .5 temperature variation to this point. The water heater ones will work if you have nothing else, but I did not like them very much. The wafer ones work great, but I have killed two different clutches of "expensive eggs" because of wafer failure. So needless to say I do not trust them very much. So time will tell, but so far I am very, very happy this one.

I really like this type of thermostat, it works mechanically like a wafer thermostat, but doesn't require extra wafers. I have one that I put in my Brower Top Hatch incubator. The temperature swings are 99-100, doesn't get much better than that! I have a friend that has a huge Turn-X incubator, I couldn't find any info on it, but it uses this type of thermostat, and has been using the same thermostat since the incubator was bought in the 70's (I think 70's is when it was produced)

that thermostat looks cool

is it a ambiant or radiant thermostat

and how is it setup and work?

It is an ambient thermostat, It wires like a water heater thermostat would to a light bulb.

It works wonderfully. I use it in my Brower Top Hatch incubator, and even in that thin plastic bowl, it works great.
