Which thread is best for crop surgery?

I have everything I need for crop surgery tomorrow except for the suture thread. I've called a few hospital supply co's as well as Tractor Supply Co and neither have sutures thread or curved needles. So I have to make a walmart run for thread and needle.

Does it matter the type? Cotton/Nylon?Polyester? I will dip it in betadine antiseptic first to avoid infection but I didn't know if one type was better to use or if anyone had issues with a certain type.
