Which type of blrw do you think these are?

So is it the redder comb that’s making you all say roo for the one glw? I have 2 8 week old glw and one of them had a really red comb around this age and she still is a she...I thought she was a roo cause of the comb but then several people on here told me that Wyandottes tend to get redder combs and it doesn’t mean roo :idunno I’m new to chickens all together so I’m learning as I’m going!:D

I'm going by the width of the comb as well. Definitely wait and watch. If a male by 8-10 weeks it will br bright red with wattles too. Females pink up early in Wyandotte, so you are watching for red, and well as muddy coloring across the shoulders instead of clean lacing which would indicate a pullet.

Thanks for the info. My glw are all from tsc so hatchery chicks. I know they’ll be pretty but not to standard. My blrw are from a breeder and I saw the parents and they were gorgeous so I’m excited to see my chicks all grown up! :clap

If I end up with a roo glw I’d be ok with that as I may try to breed them. Do people buy glw from a breeder that are not to standard? Or should I just keep my glw for egg layers (our original intentions)

People will buy birds locally no matter the quality. I personally prefer hatchery stock as they often lay better and don't go broody as often. Breeder birds are constantly broody and don't always lay very well.

Its not just the comb but he has allot of red already on his shoulders

Ok so the chicks are now 5 weeks old and I am 99% sure my 1 pullet is a cockerel because of his feather pattern, comb and wattles. I was looking at 3 of the other chicks and I think they may be cockerels too. I tried to get good pics of them but wasn’t super successful. What do you think?

I’ll try and get a better pic tomorrow or Saturday. On another note I just moved my 7 week old buff orpingtons and glw chicks out to my coop this past weekend. The girls have been doing fine however they have not gone up the ramp or used the perches we put in and have been sleeping in a heap on the floor in the back of the coop. Any suggestions on getting them to use the perches? Just need to give them time or is the ramp too steep maybe?

They are new to this environment and need time to feel comfortable enough to explore and relax. Give them time and they will be all over the place! The ramp is fine, I've had two day old chicks navigate a steeper ramp. Give them a week to relax and explore and they will begin to roost and use the coop like you want them too! ;)
